From Luke:
My parents asked me to think about asking for donations for a charity for my birthday instead of getting presents. Right away I thought about giving money to Guatemala because our church has been talking a lot about a school down there. I wanted to help out the school. I invited my basketball team to my party and told them that I did not want presents, but that they could donate money to a school in Guatemala. At my party, we did an obstacle course and my friends brought money to donate. My mom told my friends about the school and we raised $170. I am happy that I could help the school.
From Luke’s parents:
When we throw friend birthday parties for our children we encourage them to consider choosing a charity to donate money to instead of receiving presents. When we spoke to Luke about this opportunity, he was quick to choose Global Shore. He didn’t even hesitate at this idea. Several children and adults at our church have also taken this opportunity and shared their experiences at church and Katrina has also shared at our children’s program about what our money can actually do for the school. So Luke was very aware about how he could contribute. At the party, Luke and his buddies were very excited to count the money and see how much they raised. As Luke’s parents we are very proud of him and are blown away by the generosity of the basketball team families.
Thanks so much Luke for choosing to partner with us!! You are a blessing to the school and kids in Guatemala!
