Dave and Helen Suderman live in Port Rowan, Ontario and have been involved with Global Shore for over 7 years. This February, Dave, Helen and their children and grandchildren came down to serve with us for two weeks. Here is what Dave said about having his family with him in Guatemala:
Two years ago Helen and I visited our sponsor child’s home in San Louis. She had lost her mother at the age of six and her father left when she was born so she went to live with her grandmother. The grandmother is a hard-working, loving person striving to provide for Sherly and her brother, they live on a steep hillside in three small metal buildings comprising of a bedroom, kitchen and living-room/2nd bedroom all built on three different levels. It was very difficult to navigate between the buildings because of the steepness, rocks and clay. The Lord instilled in us the desire to provide a concrete stairway from the road up to the three buildings. With the help and expertise of two local Guatemalan workers, my sons, Alex and Eric and I were able to complete this stairway in the five days allotted.
The second component of our trip was to introduce our family to another culture and share the love of Jesus by putting on a DVBS in Paramos at Louis’s church for 3 afternoons that consisted worship, teaching and crafts and just love on the kids that attended. Alex and Eric with their wives Carla and Lisa and our seven grandchildren also attended the GSO school for worship time in the mornings which was very impactful and rewarding for Helen and I to see them join in with the Guatemalans in many activities. We also want to thank Fred, Christoph and Lexi for their amazing love and leadership displayed in so many way to our family. We ended the trip by climbing the volcano and taking a trip to the beach resort at San Jose, praising the Lord for safety and health and the opportunity to have our family experience the joy and blessing that Helen and I have experienced over the past 7 years in coming to the school and seeing what mighty things God is doing there.
