OUR VISION IS A TRANSFORMED GUATEMALA

Throughout our years of ministry, we have learned that quality Christian education is the most effective way to bring about long-term change. One transformed life can change an entire family. One transformed family can impact an entire community. Transformed communities can change the course of a nation.

This vision starts with each individual child, imparting to them the knowledge that God loves them and has a purpose for their life. As they grow up in this kingdom-minded culture, they begin to believe the truth about who God made them to be. This perspective and confidence enable them to succeed in life, breaking cycles of generational brokenness and positively impacting the people around them.

OUR SCHOOL

Our primary ministry is a K-12 school in Pastores, Sacatepéquez, called Colegio Cristiano Avivando el Fuego (Fanning the Flame Christian School), with over 300 students. Our dream is to open more schools like this across Guatemala. We have rigorous academic standards, high scoring on standardized testing and high school programs in Accounting, Graphic Design, Secretarial Skills and Education Skills.

Our school is guided by a unifying hope for our students that informs each aspect of our work.

THE VISION of CCAF

WHAT SETS US APART

Education

Throughout Guatemala, public schools are dramatically underfunded. Many schools operate without books, teaching literacy through phonetics and rote learning. Without accountability, teachers under-prepare or sometimes don’t even come to school.

At CCAF, students receive a quality education. We have libraries at each school, stocked with books from generous donors. We teach literacy through reading, promoting critical thinking. Our teachers are held accountable for the learning in their classrooms and teach passionately with the student in mind.

Accessibility

Private schools promote themselves as an answer to public school problems, but bullying and other issues persist. Moreover, the high cost means that only wealthy families can afford to enroll their children.

At CCAF, finances are not an obstacle to receiving a quality education. We provide scholarships to offset tuition costs and can keep costs low thanks to student sponsors and teacher partners who give monthly towards the work at CCAF. If a family can’t afford to attend, we work with parents to ensure their children receive the quality education they deserve.

Faith

In Guatemala, education is undervalued. Public schools are filled to the brim, and students can get lost in the crowd. There’s no vision and no reason for students to persevere when they struggle in an underfunded system.

At CCAF, our faith is our core curriculum. Each child is valued and loved. They are invited into a relationship with Christ and given a reason to persevere. Each lesson is grounded in the truth of Scripture, and students are led to understand that the Holy Spirit is present, whether it be in math, recess, or English classes.

A Safe Place

At CCAF, we start the day right. Every student and staff member attends a half-hour devotion first thing in the morning. We worship, pray and commit our day to the Lord. We hug our students freely. We let Him lead us in ministry, encouraging our students and helping them to surrender their difficulties to God. We provide breakfast for our youngest students, ensuring each child has what they need to have a good day.
